IN Rhythms

There are very few people who realize what God would make of them if they abandoned themselves into his hands, and let themselves be formed by his grace. A thick and shapeless tree-trunk would never believe that it could become a statue, admired as a miracle of sculpture, and would never submit itself to the chisel of the sculptor, who sees by its genius, what he can make of it.
— St. Ignatius of Loyola

If we are to increasingly follow Jesus more and more, we must be transformed by the Holy Spirit into His likeness.  In movements are opportunities for individual transformation through discipleship and spiritual formation activities, such as Bible and theology discussions, prayer, spiritual direction, and engagement with various spiritual practices.

Holistic formation engage the head, the heart, and the hand.

Engaging our Heads through Catechesis involves the renewal of our minds through such disciplines as:

  • Bible Study

  • Theological Inquiry

  • Devotional Reading

Engaging our Hearts through Spiritual Practices involves the renewal and enlargement of our hearts by engaging various practices that allows us to enter into God’s very presence. This experience of God moves us from a posture of just knowing things about God to actually knowing God Himself and growing in intimacy with Him. It also involves a deeper self-awareness, growth in emotional maturity, healing from past wounds, and growing in the Fruit of the Holy Spirit. Such practices include:

  • Prayer and Examen

  • Lectio Divina

  • Meditation on Icons and Religious Art and Music

  • Quiet Retreats

  • Spiritual Direction

  • Rule of Life

Engaging our Hands through Service involves bringing renewal to the world as we employ our hands (our time, talents, gifts, unique calling/vocation, and resources) for the benefit and blessing of others. For practices, check out the OUT Rhythm

  • This is included here because the ways we serve others not only effects them and moves the proclamation of the Gospel forward, but it also forms our souls. As we serve others, we should take time to reflect on those experiences and how they are forming us.
